The city of Lincoln will pay tribute to veterans across the state with two special events this Saturday.
Returning this year for its 25th anniversary, the Annual Veterans Walk of Recognition, as well as a commemorative Veterans Day Ceremony at in Antelope Park on Saturday, November 11. The schedule is as follows:
The 25th annual Veterans Walk of Recognition will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the southwest corner of Veterans Memorial Stadium and conclude at the Veterans Memorial Garden, 3200 Memorial Drive in Antelope Park. Flags will also be placed in the garden to commemorate Veterans Day. The Veterans Memorial Garden is open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., including Veterans Day.
The Veterans Day Ceremony will be at 11 a.m. at the Auld Pavilion in Antelope Park, 1650 Memorial Drive. The program will focus on General John J. Pershing and include remarks by Mr. Donald F. Costello and City Council member Tom Duden. Presentation of the Colors will be conducted by Veterans Walk Flag Bearers Gailen Young and Scott Arner. Laura Keller and Kevin Murray will be the featured musicians. Rev. Penny Greer, with the Northeast United Church of Christ, will deliver the invocation and benediction. Accessible parking is available on the north side of the Auld Pavilion.
Attendees for Antelope Park events honoring veterans on November 11 are advised to access the park via South Street and Memorial Drive, or via 27th and Garfield and streets. The entrance to Antelope Park from “A” Street is now closed due to a construction project adjacent to the park.
