The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an in-custody death following an incident late Tuesday night at a Lincoln hotel. The Sheriff’s Office says Lincoln Police officers contacted a 23-year-old Lincoln man around 11 p.m. at the Hampton Inn near Old Cheney and Nebraska Parkway.

LSO says the man had outstanding warrants for assault causing bodily injury and disturbing the peace. Investigators say the man fled from officers and later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No officers were injured, and the Sheriff’s Office says there was no use of force by officers during the incident. The investigation will be presented to a grand jury, which is standard procedure in in-custody death investigations.
