Careless smoking is being blamed on a fire in south Lincoln Wednesday morning that caused about $75,000 damage.  LFR crews found flames coming from an attached garage when they arrived at the home north of 25th and Old Cheney Road around 7:00 a.m.

“We were able to put it out pretty quickly,” says  LFR Captain Nancy Crist.  “There was a little structural damage to the garage.  There were no injuries.”  She says they were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the home.

Crist says the man who lives there said he was smoking in the garage and emptied an ashtray into a trash can, which caught fire.  She says the resident will still be able to live there.
