A Lincoln woman had her brand new vehicle stolen at gunpoint Saturday afternoon near the UNL campus. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says the 29 year old woman was parking her car near 16th and S Streets just before 3:00 p.m. when a red Ford Fusion pulled up next to her..

“A male exited the Fusion and approached her vehicle. The victim described the male as wearing a facemask and armed with a rifle as he arrived at her door,” Vollmer says.  “The male began yelling at the victim to open her door and gestured with the rifle he would break her window if she did not comply. The victim opened her door and exited the car.”

Vollmer says the man hopped in and the two vehicles left the area.   Moments later the woman’s Mazda was involved in a hit and run crash at State Fair Park Drive & Cornhusker Hwy.  “The driver of the Mazda fled and was picked up by an unknown vehicle,” Vollmer says.   He says the woman’s vehicle was totaled in the crash.

During a follow-up investigation, the suspected Fusion was found to have been reported stolen in Omaha.  OPD says the vehicle was connected to several drive by shootings. Omaha Police pursued the vehicle and arrested two 17 year old boys.   Inside the vehicle were a Glock handgun and and AR style pistol.

It’s not known if the teens are actually connected to the Lincoln incident.  the investigations is ongoing.
