LPD officers were called to the area of 84th and A Street at about 2:23 AM Monday in response to a man standing in the middle of the road. Although the man said he didn’t have identification and gave a false name to officers at the scene, police determined him to be Patrick E. Burling. When an officer realized Burling had an outstanding arrest warrant, Burling fled the scene and a chase ensued.

LPD Captain Todd Kocian told media how the pursuit unfolded. “As Burling was running through a yard, he fell, rolled onto his back, produced a handgun, and pointed it at the officer. Burling quickly stood back up, at which time, the officer deployed a taser and Burling was taken into custody.

Burling was arrested for Terroristic Threats, Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Prohibited Person, Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony, and Resisting Arrest with a Deadly Weapon, all of which are felonies. He was also cited for False Information and Obstructing a Police Officer, both of which are misdemeanors.
