LPD Completes Landfill Search For Evidence In Murder Investigation

By Tom Stanton Sep 20, 2022 | 12:56 PM

The search is over at the Lincoln City landfill for evidence connected to a homicide case. LPD Sergeant Chris Vollmer says from September 6-14  LPD, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol searched the landfill after the body of 49 year old Ronnie Patz was found at a northwest Lincoln motel.

Sergeant Chris Vollmer says about 20 law enforcement officers spent about 60 hours searching through about 1.9 million pounds of trash.  “At this point in the investigation, we believe that we have located all evidence that we reasonably feel will be located and are no longer searching the landfill for further evidence.”

Prior to Patz’s death on September 1,  61 year old Ronald George was found stabbed to death days earlier near 3rd and P Streets. 55 year old William Wright is charged with second-degree murder in George’s death.   Police say Wright is connected to the motel where Patz’s body was found but has not been charged in his death.

The investigation continues.
