Lincoln Police spotted a vehicle that was parked and running in an alley near 17th and O Street just before midnight Thursday. “While approaching the vehicle, the odor of marijuana was emanating from the vehicle,” says LPD Sergeant Chris Vollmer.
Officers say there was a cloud of marijuana smoke escaping the vehicle as the driver opened the door. The occupants of the vehicle were asked to get out and a probable cause search of the vehicle turned up some marijuana cigarettes and empty cannabis flower packages.
Vollmer says a 40 caliber handgun was found under the front passenger seat. “A backpack in the trunk further contained a .9mm gun with
an extended 30 round capacity magazine. The gun in the trunk was later found to be stolen out of Denver.
22 year old Saiveon Hopkins was taken into custody and booked for possession of a stolen firearm. He was cited and released for carrying a concealed weapon.
