The first United Airlines flight from the Lincoln Airport to Houston took off around 6:20 Friday morning and arrived around 8:30. Airport Director of Communications Rachel Barth tells KLIN News 49 of the 50 seats were filled with a variety of passengers.

“A few people were flying there on business and a good chunk of people were going there just for the weekend,” Barth says.  There was a group of five or six that were going down for a concert, some other people going to visit family.”

Based on the success of this first flight, Barth thinks it will be very popular for business and leisure travelers going forward.  “We had a travel agent this morning and they’re so excited about this market for Lincoln people because they book a lot of cruises, book a lot of people to Mexico and Houston is a great route to get people to both those locations.”

A celebration of the inaugural flight was held in terminal this morning. Barth says they treated passengers to Texas sized cinnamon rolls and free coffee.
