The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says a 33 year old Beatrice woman was robbed and beaten on a ride from Beatrice to Lincoln to purchase a vehicle Saturday afternoon. Sheriff Terry Wagner says the woman asked a man she had known for a few weeks for a ride.
Wagner says he and another man gave her a ride and she fell asleep in the backseat in the area of 25th and Wittstruck Road near Roca. “Then they stopped the vehicle, told her to give the money to them or they would shoot her. He says the woman was kicked and beaten and left in a ditch.
Wagner says shots were fired to scare the woman, but she was not hit. A homeowner in the area heard the gunshots and saw the woman coming out of the ditch and called 911.
The woman was treated and released at a Lincoln hospital for injuries suffered in the attack. Wagner says 31 year old Thomas Angell was arrested Saturday evening at his apartment in southwest Lincoln where they found $3,000 cash on him. He was booked for robbery, assault, use of a weapon to commit a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and terroristic threats.
Wagner says they know the identify of the other suspect, but have not made an arrest yet.
