Lincoln Police say the theft of two cars from the driveway of a home near 60th and Leighton Friday morning eventually led to the capture of five teenagers. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says a man reported his 2011 Nissan Maxima and his 2005 Dodge Magnum had been taken from his driveway during the overnight hours.
About 45 minutes later, Vollmer says officers were sent to Antelope Park on a report of a grey SUV or station wagon driving erratically in the parking lot. Arriving officers found the stolen Dodge Magnum in the lot. No one was in it and one of the rear tires was flat.
The caller also said the male who got out of the Dodge was picked up by someone in an unknown maroon vehicle and left the area. Vollmer says around 7:10 a.m. officers responded to the 3100 block of Stephanos Dr where the stolen Nissan had struck a tree. Vollmer says four teenagers fled and a 15 year old girl remained in the backseat and was unresponsive.
She was taken to an area hospital where Vollmer says she was found to be heavily intoxicated. The other teens, a 14 year old girl, two 15 year old girls and a 15 year old boy were taken into custody after foot pursuits around the area of Tierra Park. All were referred for Theft by Receiving.
Vollmer says at 10:23 a.m. officers were called to the 5100 block of Topaz Ct on the report of a theft from a vehicle. The victim reported someone got into his father’s vehicle parked on the street and took a .40 caliber Hi Point carbine rifle, 9mm baretta, a box of .40 caliber ammunition and a wallet.
Video provided by a neighbor shows the 14 year old girl and one of the 15 year old girls already in custody removing the items and leaving the area. The firearms were located under a tree in the 3000 block of Sardius Ct.
