Lincoln Police officers patrolling near South 13th and South Street around 7:25 p.m. Sunday, May 9th spotted a 1997 Ford Explorer with a broken taillight. Officers stopped the vehicle at South 13th and Peach Street and spoke to the driver, 64 year old Dale Gatson. Officers also saw an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle and conducted a search.
The located a 80 Sig Sauer P238 in the center console. The gun was reported stolen out of Omaha on May 12, 2020. Officers also learned that Gatson was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a felony conviction for murder in 1990 in Omaha.
Gatson was booked for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a stolen firearm and for having an open container in a vehicle.
