The owner of two dogs living in the 600 block of W 8th Street called Animal Control on May 19th to report their pets had been poisoned by an unknown person.

One of the dogs, a 3 year old Lab named Lyla was being treated at the Nebraska Animal Medical Center and the other dog, a 5 year old German Shepherd named Vici had already died.

Animal Control set up a game camera. On May 31st, it showed a man approaching the kennel while holding a can of food with tongs. The man could be seen putting the food in the kennel. There were orange pellets of an unknown substance inside the can containing food. A sample of that food has been sent to the Iowa State Veterinary Lab in an attempt to identify that substance.

The dog was inside the home so the food left had been untouched.  It appears the suspect had left poisoned food on several occasions.

Anyone who has information or can identify the suspect is asked to call the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
