The Cornhusker State Games Torch Run will arrive in Lincoln prior to Thursday night’s Saltdogs game at Haymarket Park. “That always involves the final in person leg of our torch run,” says Dave Mlnarik, executive director of the Nebraska Sports Council. “There has been six legs across Nebraska this year and this is the last one.”
The Torch will be carried onto the field at around 6:45 p.m. by Nebraska Air National Guard soldiers and honorary Torch Bearer, Technical Sergeant Sara Stoltenberg.
Similar to Olympic tradition, local runners carry the torch in 1-mile segments across the state as a precursor to the Cornhusker State Games, which will be held July 15-24. Mlnarik says more than 6,000 athletes are registered for the games, a multi-sport festival for athletes of all ages/abilities.
The games will be held in Lincoln, Omaha and several other Nebraska communities. The registration deadline is July 6.
