Former Nebraska 1st District Congressman Jeff Fortenberry will not be spending time behind bars after being convicted of lying to the FBI about illegal campaign contributions.
A federal judge in Los Angeles on Tuesday sentenced the 61 year old Fortenberry to two years of probation and 320 hours of community service. Fortenberry was also fined $25,000.
Fortenberry was found guilty on one count of falsifying and concealing material facts and two counts of making false statements. The prosecution case was tied to an illegal $30,000 contribution to Fortenberry’s campaign from a foreign billionaire at a 2016 Los Angeles fundraiser.
