An Elk Creek man is accused of forcing his girlfriend to drive against her will Sunday evening and attacking her on the side of the road. Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner says the woman spotted a man changing his tire at 120th and Highway 2 around 8:30 p.m. and pulled over. Wagner says Cody Ringle then got out to help change the tire.
“She saw her opportunity to escape and so she took off running,” Wagner says. “Ringle chased her down and was observed to punch her in the face several times in the ditch.”
Wagner says the woman’s car had run out of gas just as she was pulling over, which prevented her from driving away. Ringle was chased off by witnesses yelling at him to stop. Ringle was eventually arrested by a state trooper. He was booked for false imprisonment and assault and for an arrest warrant out of Johnson County.
The woman was able to wave down another driver who took her to a Sam’s Club to call 911.
