Heat related illnesses have been keeping emergency rooms busy in recent days. Dr. Patrick Mulherin with CHI Health says they have treated dozens of people and points out that it can sneak up on you fast. Watch for these symptoms.
“Stopping sweating, headache, they can have nausea, they can start to get irritable, they can start feeling dizzy.” Mulherin says the majority of people he has seen have been elderly.
He suggests people take safety measures to keep them healthy and avoid a trip to the emergency room. “It’s always advisable to try to cool yourself off,” he said. “Go to some shady location, wet yourself down, wet your skin down. Try to get into a breezy area and rehydrate.”
He says if you still don’t feel right or you get dizzy when you stand, you need to go seek medical attention.
