Storm Assessment Teams To Survey Damage In Lancaster County

By Tom Stanton Jun 15, 2022 | 10:17 AM

The National Weather Service will be sending storm assessment teams to Lancaster County on Wednesday following Tuesday night’s powerful storms.  Sirens sounded just after 10:30 p.m. after a tornado warning was issued for northern Lancaster County.

“It looks like there might have been a tornado basically going straight through the northern portions of Lancaster County  and continuing all the way across the Missouri River and into parts of wester Iowa,” says meteorologist Taylor Nicolaisen.

He says they will be taking a look at debris from the Pleasant Dale area to see if the damage was from a tornado or straight line winds.  There were reports of significant hail damage in Seward and Malcom.  “We had lots of reports of one to two inch hail but we even had reports of three to three and a half inch hail just west of Lincoln.”

The DHHS office in Seward received significant storm damage Tuesday evening.  The office will be closed until repairs can be made.  If residents need assistance, they can call 855-632-7633 for Medicaid or 800-383-4278 for Economic Assistance, or visit another local office.  Other office locations are available at ACCESSNebraska.com

In Greenwood an RV was overturned by the storm.  No serious injuries were reported.
