On Thursday, May 6th at 7:05 p.m., Lincoln Police were called to South 70th and Yankee Woods Drive on a report of a man walking in traffic. The person reporting the incident said the man was walking in front of cars, screaming at them, and demanded they run him over.
Police started diverting traffic away from the 24 year old man who was experiencing a mental health crisis. The man had a knife and yelled at officers when they arrived to treat him like a felon and shoot him.
Officers are familiar with this man and they maintained their distance and continued to communicate with him. After about 2 1/2 hours, the man calmed down and explained to officers why he was so upset. The man was then placed in protective custody without further incident and connected him to mental heath resources. The man will not face charges.
