Grab your fishing pole and hiking shoes. Saturday is Free Fishing and Park Entry Day in Nebraska.  “It’s kind of our open house of sorts,” says Greg Wagner with the Nebraska Game and parks Commission.  “No fishing permits, no state park permits required.  All other fees and regulations do remain in effect.”

Free Fishing and Park Entry Day is held annually in Nebraska on the Saturday preceding Memorial Day weekend and means anyone can explore outdoor opportunities at any Nebraska state park, state recreation area or state historical park.  Wagner says the Salt Valley System of Lakes to be very popular this weekend.

“This would include Branched Oak, Wagon Train, Conestoga and others.”  Those fishing on May 22 also are encouraged to participate in the Take ’em Fishing challenge, in which anglers pledge to take new or inexperienced anglers fishing.  Visit outdoornebraska.gov/takeemfishing for more information.
