Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to an apartment house fire at 52nd and Leighton Avenue around 3:30 Wednesday morning. When LFR arrived, Lincoln Police were assisting one resident from the building.
One person was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One dog was found dead inside an upper apartment unit and one dog escaped unharmed.
LFR’s Nancy Crist says, “The fire was contained to that one apartment. The resident was trying to help her dogs out of the building and close the door behind her which compartmentalized the entire building.” That prevented the fire from spreading to four other units. No one else was displaced.
The cause of the fire is not known. Damage to the property is estimated at $20,000 and personal loss at $2,000. The investigation continues.
