Lincoln Fire and Rescue were sent to an apartment building near 1st and Fletcher at 10:20 Wednesday morning. A person who pulled up to the building reported seeing flames coming from a second story unit.
When LFR arrived, the saw people evacuating the building and the alarm was sounding. When they entered the 2nd floor, a hallway was filled with smoke. They had to force their way inside the unit as the resident was not home at the time.
The fire was contained to the kitchen area of the one unit but there is smoke damage throughout the apartment and in parts of the building.
The cause of the fire was determined accidental due to faulty wiring in the kitchen.
The damage is estimated at $25,000 to the building and content loss is estimated at $10,000. No one was hurt.
