The Nebraska Democratic Party’s State Executive Committee met Monday evening in closed session to select a nominee for the June 28th special election to fill the 1st Congressional District Seat.

The party announced Tuesday that current State Senator Patty Pansing Brooks will appear on that special election ballot.

NDP Chair Jane Kleeb stated,  “We have an enormous opportunity to restore integrity and honesty by sending Senator Pansing Brooks to represent the good people of Nebraska. Patty is a voice for working families who gets results by bridging political divides. Her track record shows that when she says she will be a voice for ALL Nebraskans, she means it. We must end the corrupt one-party grip on our state.”

Pansing Brooks says “I accept this nomination for the Special Election with full determination and commitment to fill the vacant seat in CD1.”

Nebraska Republicans are meeting later this week to select their candidate.  The winner of this special election will serve out the rest of Jeff Fortenberry’s term that ends in January of 2023. Fortenberry resigned at the end of March following his felony conviction for lying to federal agents regarding illegal campaign contributions.
