Lincoln Police are investigating a fraud at a clothing store in South Lincoln after an employee received a phone call from someone claiming to be a police detective. “That directed the employee to remove money from the cash register of the store and take it to purchase a Green Dot credit card and then pass that money along in order to pay a delinquent tax bill,” LPD Captain Max Hubka tells KLIN News.
He says the employee had already completed the transaction before police were called. “So it appears at this point there’s just over $2,000 in loss.”
Hubka reminds all Lincoln residents that no legitimate law enforcement agency is going to require payment through Green Dot or any other credit cards.
