The Nebraska Legislature’s Executive Board Monday met at noon to hear more on Legislative Resolution 307 that was introduced by State Senator Michaela Cavanaugh of Omaha.
This Legislative Resolution would provide the Executive Board of the Legislative Council to appoint a special committee to be known as the Special Ethics Investigative Committee of the Legislature.
Senator Cavanaugh stated, “The recent incident surrounding staff and a senator with inappropriate behavior really highlighted how inappropriate our system is.”
LR 307 would would review the Legislature’s workplace harassment policies and the appointment of a Special Ethics Investigative Committee and a set of policies that would address workplace harassment to the entire legislature.
Senator Cavanaugh recommends the committee be made up of four men and four women saying a gender balance is important. This committee would then make a recommendation to the next Legislature who would then take up the issue and decide if the recommendations will be adopted.
