Two Outdoor Warning Sirens Failed To Sound During Tornado Drill

By Tom Stanton Mar 23, 2022 | 3:00 PM

As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Nebraska, the National Weather Service conducted a statewide Tornado Drill on Wednesday morning.

All schools, businesses, hospitals, law enforcement and other state agencies were urged to test severe weather emergency communications and sheltering plans to be prepared for the severe weather season.

Lincoln-Lancaster County Emergency Management Director Jim Davidsaver says there were a couple of issues with the outdoor warning sirens during the test tornado warning.

“We’ve got over 100 sirens on the network and there were two identified that weren’t working properly,” Davidsaver says.  “We always get that information to our maintenance crew so they can ensure that it’s fully operational.”

Davidsaver is encouraging schools, businesses and residents that practiced their shelter plan to fill out a participation form online.  The form asks for feedback on how the drill went , if the location has a NOAA weather radio and how many people participated.  He will keep a running total of participants.

He says the form can be filled out anytime during the year when a shelter drill is tested .  You can access the form here
