Lincoln Police were sent to Prairie Mechanical Corporation at 5900 North 58th Street #6 at 1:34 a.m. Tuesday, March 22nd on a report of two people stealing copper wire from an air conditioning unit. A neighboring business owner received an alert on his Ring doorbell and saw the people near the unit and then heard the sound of a cutting tool. The man watched as items from the unit were loaded into a pickup and then saw it leave the area as officers arrived.
LPD conducted a traffic stop on that Chevy pickup. In the bed, officers found air conditioner condenser coils and several tools used to cut those coils from the unit.

There were three people in the vehicle, 41 year old Jeffrey Smith, 36 year old Jason Romano, and 34 year old Candice Craig. All three were booked for theft by unlawful taking and for possession of burglary tools. Smith was also booked for possession of a controlled substance.
Damage to the air conditioner unit is estimated at $2,500 and the loss of coil and copper pipe is estimated at $500.
