Woman Assaulted, LPD Cruiser Rammed During Pursuit

By Karla James Mar 14, 2022 | 12:35 PM

At 11:30 p.m. Sunday, a 26 year old woman and a 44 year old woman were in the parking lot of the EZ-Go at 25th and O Street waiting for 28 year old Chelan Garcia to exchange a 1 year old child. Garcia soon arrived in a Kia Sorento and collided with the vehicle the women were in.

The women told Lincoln Police that Garcia got out of the vehicle and struck the 26 year old woman in the face. They say Garcia then grabbed a handgun and threatened to kill them. The women drove quickly out of the lot and called police.

At 1:50 a.m. Monday, officers located the Kia in the 800 block of N 30th Street. Garcia was seen standing outside the vehicle and was taken into custody after a short foot chase.

The Kia then left the area at a high rate of speed. It was located again at 2:30 a.m. in the 3100 block of O Street. Officers then tried a traffic stop but the vehicle took off and the officers gave chase. During the pursuit, 28 year old Elizabeth Moran stopped the Kia and backed into the officer’s cruiser and took off. Moran eventually crashed into shrubbery in the 5200 block of A Street.

Moran refused to speak with officers or get out of the Kia so officers eventually broke a window on the vehicle to create a direct line of communication with her. After 45 minutes, Moran agreed to release two children,  a 1 year old and a 4 year old,   who were inside the Kia.

Moran still refused to comply with officer’s request to exit the vehicle but was taken into custody without further incident.

Garcia was booked for 3rd degree domestic assault, terroristic threats, obstructing government operations, and child abuse – misdemeanor.

Moran was booked for two counts of felony child abuse, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, use of a vehicle to assault a police officer, willful reckless driving, driving during revocation, obstructing government operations, and leaving the scene of an accident. Moran was found to have an outstanding warrant for operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest.
