The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department is again offering the Field Trip Across Lincoln and Beyond program this year. The program is underway and will run through April 30th.
Lauren Holt with the International Quilt Museum tells KLIN News, “We thought this would give us a chance to invite families to engage in STEAM activities. That is science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. It is how can we combine arts education along with science, technology and math education. The mix of sites we had participating last year and this year are arts and science. It is a great tie-in and a way to offer some activities and encourage participation at different sites. If you have an activity at a park, you sit and listen to nature. An activity at a museum to examine a piece of art and learn more about the artist that created it them, you are engaging different parts of your mind. It seems like a refreshing opportunity that we can invite the community to participate.”
Those wanting to take part will need to pick up a passport. They are available at all the locations and at Lincoln City Libraries. They can also be downloaded by visiting the Morrill Hall website. Participants visit each location and follow activity instructions on the passport. Those who complete the assigned tasks will earn a stamp at those locations. If you collect stamps from five locations, you can enter the prize drawing by sending a photo of the passport to fieldtriplnk@gmail.com.
Holt says grand prizes include family museum memberships, art classes, a wren house, art work, and catalogs. Other prizes include posters, playing cards, puzzles and more. he Field Trip Across Lincoln and Beyond program is free, but admission fees for museums still apply. Visit each participating location’s website for hours of operation and admission information.
