The state of Texas has not been kind to Nebraska baseball through the first two weekends of the 2022 season.

The Huskers (1-6) again dropped three games in three days, this time being swept by No. 17 TCU (6-1). The Horned Frogs took wins of 4-1, 8-3, and 5-3 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

In the first game Friday, starter Kyle Perry got off to a much better start than his season-opener the weekend before. Perry gave up three runs on four hits and struck out eight in 4.1 innings. Those three runs proved to be enough as Husker hitters plated just a single runner when Cam Chick knocked in Colby Gomes in the seventh inning.

Nebraska put together six hits, including a pair from Gomes.

In the Saturday game, TCU jumped out with two runs in the opening frame and added three more in the third. Nebraska put together a two-run fourth and put another across the plate in the seventh, but those three runs were short of the eight for TCU.

Starting pitcher Shay Schanaman was chased off after just 1.1 innings. Seven Husker pitchers appeared in the game, with Mason Ornelas the only one to go a full two innings.

Sunday’s series finale followed a familiar script for the weekend, with TCU getting an early lead and extending as Nebraska failed to put together enough scoring to come back.

Dawson McCarville got the start on the bump, gibing up five earned runs in 4.0 innings of work. Emmett Olson came made a relief appearance of 3.0 innings, surrendering just one hit and zero runs.

At the plate, Griffin Everitt led the way with three hits. As a team, Nebraska outhit TCU 10-9 but left more runners on base (8-5).

The Huskers return to Texas next weekend for a four-game set, taking on Northwestern State and UT-Arlington twice each Friday and Saturday.
