Nebraska women’s basketball held a nearly double-digit lead in the second quarter, but that was erased and gone for good as No. 21 Ohio State handed the Huskers an 80-70 loss in Columbus.

Now with back-to-back losses, Nebraska (17-6, 6-6 Big Ten) has been in a shooting slump for the past several games. The Huskers shot 33.8 percent for the game, but that includes going 13.3 percent in the second quarter and 25 percent in the third.

NU grabbed 14 more rebounds on the night, including a whopping 21 offensive rebounds. That was turned into 18 more shots for Big Red, but Ohio State converted at a better overall clip: 46.4 percent.

It wasn’t just overall shooting that hurt the Huskers, it was the length between even making baskets. In the second quarter, NU didn’t make a shot for the final 6:54. The Huskers had a nearly five minute stretch in the third without seeing a shot go in. And in the crucial fourth quarter, Nebraska went without a basket for nearly four minutes.

The six-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week Alexis Markowski continued her dominance in conference play with game-highs of 23 points and 15 rebounds.

Nebraska will try and right the ship Saturday at Illinois before hosting No. 7 Indiana Monday.
