The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will consider a policy change regarding the sale and consumption of alcohol at athletic events at it’s meeting Friday morning.

The board will decide whether to reverse a 1999 police that prohibits the sale of alcohol on University of Nebraska property. The Big Ten Wrestling Championships March 5-6 at Pinnacle Bank Arena would be the first event to be considered for alcohol sales.

General Manager Tom Lorenz tells KLIN News this would be a good trial run.  “To have alcohol sales for that matches up with some of the events the Big Ten does across the country.  So I think it’s an appropriate place to start that discussion.”

Lorenz says PBA allows alcohol sales at concerts and other events throughout the year and they will work to make it a safe and enjoyable event.

The board will also consider allowing the university president and chancellors to authorize the sale and consumption of alcohol at future athletic events on their respective campuses.   The meeting begins at 8:30 Friday morning.
