Nebraska State Senator Adam Morfeld has been cleared to have his name on the ballot for Lancaster County attorney.
Lancaster County Election Commissioner Dave Shively ruled Wednesday that Morfeld’s name will be on the May 10, 2022 Democratic Primary Election ballot.
Shively said he received an objection from the Nebraska and Lancaster County Republican Parties on January 19 on the grounds that Morfeld was not a practicing attorney.
Shively responded to officials with both Republican parties saying “There appear to be no directly applicable statutory definitions for this term, and the Nebraska Supreme Court has long acknowledged in different contexts that the concept of ‘practicing law’ eludes a precise, all–encompassing definition.”
Morfeld said in a statement that ” I have been actively practicing law for the statutorily required two years, but also long before that in multiple capacities.”
