The relatively mild and dry winter has kept snow plows off the streets of Lincoln and is giving street crews a chance to work on other projects.
“Our crews are staying very busy crack sealing, which will help prolong the life of our streets,” says LTU Maintenance Operations Manager Tim Byrne. “It will help keep water and moisture out of them. That will reduce the likelihood of pothole development.”
As far as potholes go, Byrne says there have been very few reports of them to begin 2022. “Looks like we have received 28 pothole requests thus far this year, but our crews have filled more than 1,600 potholes over the past four weeks.”
Byrne says they are going through some freeze-thaw cycles, which usually brings some potholes. “But with the absence of moisture getting in there and prying the pavement apart, that’s one of the reasons that we are seeing fewer potholes right now.”
