The driver lost control, left the road and hit a traffic signal support pole and a railroad crossing arm. The vehicle stopped in the southbound lanes of 14th, just south of Highway 2.
The driver, 23 year old Hortencia Hernandez was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced deceased a short time later. Both the southbound lanes of 1th Street from Highway 2 and the southbound turn lane remained closed until 11;45 a.m. during the on-scene investigation.
