A Lincoln police officer was injured Thursday afternoon after a woman allegedly bit his hand while officers were attempting to arrest a man wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Gorge Barron, LSO Mugshot

According to Lincoln Police Lieutenant Chris Weber, officers were investigating a disturbance near 21st and Y Streets around 4:34 p.m. when they encountered 52-year-old Gorge Barron and 46-year-old Alina Sturgeon, both of Lincoln.

Officers determined Barron had an outstanding warrant and attempted to take him into custody.

Weber said Barron resisted arrest by tensing his body and grabbing officers. Sturgeon allegedly interfered by approaching the officers and grabbing Barron as they attempted to arrest him.

Police then attempted to arrest Sturgeon for interfering.

“While arresting Sturgeon for interfering, she also resisted arrest, struck the officer on the wrist, and bit his hand, which punctured the skin,” Weber said.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released. Police said the officer subsequently returned to duty.
