Lincoln Parks and Recreation is looking for volunteers to help prepare the Sunken Gardens for winter during its annual “Put the Beds to Bed” event Saturday, November 7. The event begins at 8:30 at 26th and D streets.
After Parks and Recreation staff remove the annual plants, volunteers will spread a fresh layer of compost in the garden beds and hand-spade the soil. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, a shovel or spade, and wear layered clothing that can get dirty, along with heavy-soled shoes.
The activity is not recommended for children younger than 13. If weather forces a cancellation, the event will be held Saturday, November 14. To volunteer, contact Public Gardens Volunteer Coordinator Jeff Ahern at PublicGardensVolunteers@lincoln.ne.gov.
