Spring could be arriving early in Nebraska.  On a cold, cloudy Wednesday in the state’s groundhog capital, Unadilla Billie made her prediction.

“I’m Unadilla Billie. The sky is gray and it’s chilly. Please tell everyone, it won’t be long until spring will come.”  Bob Brandt is with the Groundhog Day Committee and read the note from the stuffed groundhog.  “It looks like we’re going to get an early spring.”

Unadilla Billie who will make her first prediction on Wednesday.  Unadilla Bill served the community for 33 years and was retired after last year’s prediction.    Bill now calls the Nitty Gritty Gas & Thrift Convenience Store in Unadilla home.

The early spring prediction came after Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow in Pennsylvania and saw his shadow, meaning six more weeks of winter.
