The Junior League of Lincoln is highlighting the need for diapers in the community during National Diaper Need Awareness Week. Amie Just, the organization’s communications director, says one in three Nebraska families struggles to afford diapers.
Just says diapers can cost $80 to $100 dollars a month for one child, and federal assistance programs such as WIC and SNAP generally cannot be used to purchase them. “We now have our own diaper bank, and we help bridge the gap for families who are experiencing diaper need,” Just says.
People can donate diapers, money or purchase items through the Junior League’s Amazon wishlist. The organization also accepts leftover diapers from families whose children have outgrown them.
Just says community support is important because the diaper bank sometimes struggles to keep enough supplies on hand “It’s needed in our community. There’s a lot of need.” Lincoln residents will have a chance to donate Diapers Friday during a free showing of the movie The Sandlot at the Lincoln Airport. The event is part of the Junior League’s “Striking Out Diaper Need” campaign.
Any size of diaper can be donated along with wipes. Food trucks and vendors will also be on hand beginning at 6:00. Click here for more details about the diaper bank.
