Lincoln Police are investigating after gunfire claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman Tuesday night. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says around 7:20 p.m. officers responded to a disturbance involving juveniles in the area of N. 47th Street and Cleveland Avenue.
Thomas says officers contacted those involved when some of them ran off. While interviewing those still on scene, officers heard a gunshot about a block away near N. 46th Street and Madison Avenue. Officers arrived within moments and found the woman with a single gunshot wound, Thomas says.
They immediately performed life-saving measures on the victim, who was also involved in the original disturbance. Thomas says she was taken to the hospital where she died from her injuries. One person is in custody and police are speaking with multiple witnesses. Crime scene technicians remain on scene working on the investigation.
