No. 1 Nebraska volleyball faced its toughest test of the season, but still swept No. 20 Baylor 25-20, 25-22, 26-24. The Cornhuskers have swept their first six matches.
Nebraska outhit the Bears, .324-.212, outserved Baylor six aces to four and outblocked BU, 5-1.
Manaia Ogbechie and Harper Murray tied for the team lead with 11 kills. Virginia Adriano tallied eight kills and three blocks. Laney Choboy and Bergen Reilly both served three aces, while Reilly piled up 38 set assists.
The first half of set one was hotly contested, with neither team holding larger than a two-point lead as the set was tied at 13. The Huskers took control of the set by winning four of the next five rallies to lead, 17-14. An NU three-point run later in the set opened a 20-16 lead, and Nebraska cruised from there to win the first set.
In the second set, Baylor raced out to a 4-1 and 7-3 lead. The Huskers responded by winning nine of the next 10 points, building a 12-8 lead. Nebraska won six of eight rallies later in the set to open a 22-17 lead to all but lock up the second set.
Baylor opened the third set with a 6-4 lead. The Huskers scored nine of the next 11 points to jump ahead, 13-8. The Bears chipped away, then went on a four-point run to take a late 23-22 lead. But then Nebraska won four of the last five points to hold off Baylor and sweep the match.
The Huskers will close their three-match homestand Saturday at John Cook Arena against Georgia Tech. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m., with pregame coverage starting at 1 p.m. on B-107.3.
