Nebraska State Troopers are teaming up with local and university law enforcement agencies to help keep fans safe as the Huskers open the 2026 football season Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Colonel Bryan Waugh says fans should plan ahead because several road construction projects in and around Lincoln could affect their usual routes to the stadium.
With an 11 a.m. kickoff, the Nebraska State Patrol is urging fans to leave early, follow routes recommended by the Nebraska Department of Transportation and Lincoln Transportation and Utilities, and remain patient as traffic patterns change. NDOT officials say with the many construction projects in and around Lincoln fans should plan to add an extra 30-60 minutes to their travel plans.
The State Patrol will work with Lincoln Police, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, UNL Police, NDOT and LTU before, during and after the game. Trooper pilots will also monitor traffic from the State Patrol helicopter, while live traffic reports will be provided by Trooper Brett on Huskers Radio Network stations.
Inside Memorial Stadium, troopers, deputies and officers will assist fans and provide security. Fans can also text 402-472-0800 to reach UNL Police dispatch during the game. Anyone who sees a reckless or impaired driver can contact the State Patrol Highway Helpline by calling *55 or 800-525-5555.
