Lincoln Police and LFR crews responded to an apartment building near 49th and Walker just after 11:00 Wednesday morning to investigate a potential explosive device in one of the units. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas tells KLIN News officers were assisting with a search of a residence for a parolee just before 10 a.m.
“Officers found some drugs and an unknown device inside,” Thomas says. “That’s when LFR was called in and the building was evacuated out of precaution.” LFR Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg tells KLIN News there were a number of items of concern inside one of the the units.
“Anytime we’re dealing with a potential explosive device it’s a pretty slow and methodical process.” Gegg says bomb technicians will examine the devices and the process will take time.
