Lincoln Police have arrested an 18-year-old man after a disturbance involving a knife Friday morning near 7th and G streets. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says officers were called just after 11:15 a.m. and found Abdalah Hakrash of Lincoln in a vehicle nearby.
Officers stopped the vehicle near Cooper Park and took Hakrash into custody without incident. Thomas says the incident began when Hakrash crawled through an open window into the home of an 18-year-old woman he knew. Investigators say he armed himself with a large kitchen knife and chased a 19-year-old man out of the home and across the street.
Police say Hakrash then returned to the residence, took cash and a vape pen, and left in his vehicle. The arrest was made in the vicinity of Park Middle School. Principal Charlotte Everts send this message to families of Park students.
“There was a report of an unknown community member in our north parking lot and his actions were concerning,” the message said. “Out of an abundance of caution, we used our Standard Response Protocol of Secure and contacted police for assistance. Secure means there is something of concern happening outside of the school. Everyone is brought inside the building and entrances are locked and monitored. Teaching and learning, along with movement inside the building, happens as normal.”
Everts statement also said that once police informed them it was safe, they lifted the Secure and continued with recess. Hakrash was booked into the Lancaster County Jail on two counts each of terroristic threats and use of a weapon to commit a felony, along with burglary and criminal trespass.
