The Senate Agriculture Committee has rejected a new Farm Bill proposal, prompting criticism from the Nebraska Farm Bureau.
Nebraska Farm Bureau President Mark McHargue called the committee’s decision “a disappointing day for Nebraska’s farmers, ranchers and consumers.”
“Simply put, food security starts with a strong farm economy, and the failure of the Senate Agriculture Committee to move a new Farm Bill to the Senate floor does nothing but create more uncertainty for our nation’s food producers,” McHargue said.
The Farm Bureau also expressed disappointment that legislation allowing year-round sales of E15 gasoline once again failed to advance.
“It is also highly disappointing that, yet again, achieving year-round sales of E15 failed to advance after years of tireless work,” McHargue said.
McHargue thanked Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer for supporting the legislation and continuing to push for both a new Farm Bill and year-round E15 sales.
“Today, even in the face of this setback, Nebraska farm and ranch families remain resolute and determined to get this bill across the finish line,” McHargue said.
The Nebraska Farm Bureau represents nearly 55,000 member families and advocates for agricultural issues across the state.
