A major traffic change at the Interstate 80 and Interstate 180 interchange has been pushed back nearly two weeks. The Nebraska Department of Transportation says work originally scheduled for Aug. 11 will now begin the night of Sunday, Aug. 23.
Beginning at 9 p.m., northbound I-180 traffic will shift to share the southbound lanes in a head-to-head traffic pattern while crews begin reconstructing the northbound I-180 bridge over I-80. At the same time, three interchange loops will close:
- Westbound I-80 to southbound I-180
- Eastbound I-80 to northbound I-180
- Northbound I-180 to westbound I-80
Drivers will be detoured using the Cornhusker Highway interchange. The outside entrance and exit ramps at the I-80/I-180 interchange will remain open during this phase of construction. NDOT expects the traffic shift, loop closures and detours to remain in place until May 2027 while the bridge reconstruction is completed.
Motorists are urged to slow down in work zones, buckle up and avoid using their phones while driving.
