The Crete Police Department is inviting the public to honor the life and service of Police Chief Gary Young during funeral services and a law enforcement procession on Monday, August 3. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. at Ag Hall in Tuxedo Park in Crete, with doors opening at 9 a.m. Officers will be on site to help direct parking.

Following the service and law enforcement honors, a procession is expected to leave Ag Hall around 11 a.m. Chief Young will be escorted to his final resting place at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. The Nebraska State Patrol says the procession will travel south on Tuxedo Park Road before heading east on West 13th Street and Highway 33 toward Lincoln.

Once in Lincoln, the procession will continue north on South 14th Street to the cemetery. The Crete Police Department encourages members of the public to line the procession route in either Crete or Lincoln to pay their respects. NSP officials are asking people not to gather along Highway 33 between the two communities and not to park on the procession route itself.

Traffic control will be provided by the Saline County Sheriff’s Office in Crete and the Lincoln Police Department at major intersections in Lincoln.
