Lincoln could see some welcome rainfall before another stretch of dangerous heat arrives this weekend. 10/11 Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector tells KLIN News Thursday offers the best chance for precipitation, with about a 60% chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms.
Another opportunity for rain is expected late Thursday night into Friday. Rainfall totals could range from a quarter-inch to one-half inch. Rector says today is expected to be the coolest day for the foreseeable future, with highs only in the low 70s. Temperatures will rebound into the low 80s on Friday as humidity begins to increase.
The weekend will bring a rapid return to intense heat. Highs are forecast to reach the mid-90s Saturday, the upper 90s Sunday, and around 101 degrees Monday. Combined with dew points in the low to mid-70s, heat index values could climb between 100 and 110 degrees Sunday and Monday.
Rector says it would not be surprising if the National Weather Service issues heat advisories for parts of the area. While temperatures are expected to ease slightly into the low 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday, the overall hot pattern is expected to continue with only slight chances for additional rainfall next week.
