Lincoln Transportation and Utilities will host a public open house July 28th to gather feedback on a proposed $9.79 million project to improve A Street between 40th and 56th streets.
The open house is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. at Holmes Elementary School, 5230 Sumner St. City staff and the project’s design team will be available to answer questions, discuss proposed improvements and receive public comments.
The project includes milling and resurfacing A Street from 40th to 56th streets, adding a center turn lane between 40th and 48th streets, and repairing the pavement base where needed. Plans also call for reconstructing pedestrian ramps, inlet tops, curbs and gutters.
Other proposed improvements include replacing traffic signals at the intersections of 50th Street and South Cotner Boulevard with A Street, 48th and A streets, and 48th Street and South Cotner Boulevard.
A roundabout is planned at 40th and A streets, and a rectangular rapid flashing beacon would be installed near 52nd Street to improve pedestrian safety. An existing pedestrian signal near that location would likely be removed. The proposal also would close the connection between A Street and 50th Street north of A Street.
The project is estimated to cost $9.79 million and would be funded through a combination of local and federal sources, according to LTU.
If approved and funded as planned, construction could begin as early as fall 2028 and be completed by spring 2030.
