Lincoln Parks and Recreation crews will conduct controlled burns of brush piles in Wilderness Park on Thursday. The burns are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. near Yankee Hill Road and South 14th Street. No trail closures are planned.
Parks and Recreation Greenways District Supervisor Aaron Druery says controlled burns are an important part of restoring Wilderness Park. He says the burns help manage accumulated brush and reduce the risk of future wildfires.
Druery says staff also monitor weather and air quality conditions to ensure the burns are conducted safely. Visitors to the park may notice smoke in the area throughout the day Thursday.
