Lincoln Police say an elderly woman who was injured in a two vehicle crash near 48th and ‘R’ Street on May 22nd has died. LPD says Maxine Sundberg of Clarks, Nebraska died Sunday from her injuries.
Sundberg was one of five people injured in the crash. According to an LPD crash report, one driver told officers she was southbound on North 48th Street in the left-turn lane and was attempting to turn east onto R Street as the traffic signal changed from yellow to red.
The driver said she saw two vehicles approaching the intersection and proceeded with the turn, resulting in a collision between her vehicle and a northbound vehicle. The northbound driver told investigators he had a green light and was traveling through the intersection when the turning vehicle entered his path.
He said he had no time to react before the crash. A witness traveling northbound on 48th Street also reported having a green light. The witness said the turning vehicle pulled in front of her, forcing her to swerve left to avoid becoming involved in the collision.
